Blood and Kisses

Finally he lifted his head and lowered her captive hand. "What's your name?"

"St. Cloud," she breathed. "I'm Beryl St. Cloud."

"Jim Decker." He studied her. "So who did you piss off?"

Beryl rocked back, disoriented by the cool tone contrasting so starkly with those molten demon eyes. "I beg your pardon?"

"Somebody must be seriously ticked if they sent Damian Tagliar after you."

Feeling her jaw drop, she made an effort to close her mouth. "How did you know?"

"I can smell him on you." Decker nodded shortly at the cut on her neck. "You fought him. Must have done a damn good job, too, because you're still alive. I'd love to know how you pulled that one off. Tagliar doesn't often miss."

Beryl swallowed, remembering the sick terror of returning to her station hotel room to find the assassin lying on her bed, an erection swelling his trousers. "Let's get started," he'd said. "I want to make you come at least twice before I kill you."

"I shot him in the eyes with a laser torch at point blank range."

"And fried his optic nerves like eggs." He nodded, approving. "Blinded him. One of the very few ways to slow a vampire down for any length of time. You bought yourself at least four or five hours while he heals."

"Time which is rapidly running out because I spent most of it looking for you." She rose from his thigh, trying to regain a sense of control.

He sat back in his chair. "How much?"

"Time?"

"Money." Decker's face hardened. "How much money are you offering me to kill Tagliar for you?"
